By rail and river

Take the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai, then the BTS Sukhumvit line to Siam and change to the Silom line for Saphan Taksin — the station beside Central (Sathorn) Pier. From there the Chao Phraya Express boats and hotel shuttle boats reach the grand riverside hotels, and a free ICONSIAM shuttle boat crosses to the mall.

For ICONSIAM itself you can also stay on rails: ride the BTS Silom line one stop past Saphan Taksin to Krung Thonburi and change to the BTS Gold Line, which stops at Charoen Nakhon right at the mall. Either way you avoid the bridge traffic that clogs the river crossings by road.

A metered taxi from the Level 1 desk is about 400–500 THB including the 50 THB airport surcharge and expressway tolls. The riverside is on the far, western edge of the centre, and the bridges over the Chao Phraya are slow in the evening peak, so allow extra time or take the boat for the last leg.

About the Riverside and ICONSIAM

The Chao Phraya waterfront is Bangkok at its most scenic — a working river lined with five-star hotels (the Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula and Shangri-La among them), historic temples such as Wat Arun across the water, and the Asiatique night market downstream. Getting about by boat is half the appeal.

ICONSIAM, on the Thonburi bank, is the area's landmark: a vast riverside mall with an indoor floating market, a riverfront promenade and its own Gold Line station and free shuttle boats. Basing yourself near a pier means you can hop the river rather than fight the traffic.
