From BKK to Sukhumvit
The most predictable way from Suvarnabhumi to Sukhumvit is the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai, then the BTS Skytrain to your Sukhumvit stop — about 40 minutes and under 100 THB all-in. A metered taxi is 300–400 THB door-to-door but at the mercy of Bangkok traffic.

By Airport Rail Link and BTS
Take the Airport Rail Link (City Line) from the basement (level B) of the main terminal to Phaya Thai — roughly 30 minutes for 15–45 THB. At Phaya Thai, cross to the BTS Sukhumvit line and ride a few stops to Asok, Nana or Phrom Phong.
If your hotel is nearer the eastern end of Sukhumvit, you can instead leave the ARL at Makkasan and change to the MRT Blue line at Phetchaburi. Either way it is the traffic-proof option in the evening rush.
By taxi or Grab
Use the public taxi desk on Level 1 (between gates 4 and 7) and take a queue ticket. You pay the meter plus a 50 THB airport surcharge and any expressway tolls (about 25–70 THB); budget 300–400 THB to most of Sukhumvit in normal traffic.

About Sukhumvit
Sukhumvit is Bangkok's long, cosmopolitan spine — a single road running east from the centre, lined with hotels, malls, restaurants and nightlife and threaded the whole way by the BTS Skytrain. Most visitors stay somewhere along it because everything is a short train hop away and you rarely need a taxi once you have arrived.
Landmark stops are Asok (interchange with the MRT, and the Terminal 21 mall), Nana, and Phrom Phong (EmQuartier and EmSphere). The lower, single-digit sois are the busiest for nightlife; the higher, even-numbered sois are quieter and more residential.
